The ultrasound is sometimes called a prolonged examination arm of the internist. This is acompletely harmless technique that allows doctors to obtain important information in a very short time, especially in the case of disorders of the abdominal cavity or the thyroid gland.

The amount of information can be considerably increased with the use of duplex sonography and ultrasound contrast agent. The latter is used, in particular, to examine of liver tumors.

Furthermore, ultrasound control can be used to puncture all sonographic-visible conspicuous structures in order to remove the tissue.

The Gastroenterological Department of the Bonifatius Hospital also has a special device (Fibroscan®) used to clarify liver deterioration processes.

In order to cope with the extensive sonographic examination requirements, the department has a total of three modern ultrasound devices, including a high-end device.
