Interventional radiology

While radiology is often associated with diagnostics, the sub-area of interventional radiology covers different active treatment options. This means image-supported therapy methods which are used to cure various diseases. A special focus of our department is the radio frequency ablation of liver metastases. Performed in cooperation with the Surgical Department, the tumor is destroyed by heat (up to 110 ° C) from the inside. For this purpose, a few millimeter radio frequency probe is introduced through the skin and targeted into the tumor under constant CT or MRT control.

Other areas of interventional radiology:

  • Balloon dilation
  • CT-controlled puncture
  • Abscess drainage
