In the context of gerontopsychiatry, we treat and advise elderly patients (usually aged 65 and over) who suffer from psychiatric and physical disorders.
In the higher age, psychiatric disorders are more frequently accompanied by physical disorders. In some cases, mental disorders can be caused by physical disorders. In particular nervous diseases of the higher age often lead to psychological changes, e.g. dementia.
When treating elderly people with psychiatric disorders, we pay special attention to physical comorbidities. The diagnosis and treatment of gerontopsychiatric disorders therefore requires special knowledge and experience in the field of organ medicine.
Our multiprofessional medical team considers psychological, physical, social and biographical conditions which can influence the development of psychiatric illness in the sense of a holistic approach.
To clarify the physical causes of mental disorders, all diagnostic and possibly therapeutic possibilities are available.
