If a neurotraumatologic disease is caused by an accident, it is called traumatic brain injury (TBI). This designation emphasizes that not only the bones of the skull are injured, but that an injury of the nervous structures of the brain occurred.
If the accident was serious, the patient is already taken over by an emergency physician and our interdisciplinary teams of our Center Emergency Department and is then quickly screened using computer tomography. This way, all necessary operational indications are immediately discovered, and subsequently addressed.
Our interdisciplinary Intensive Care Unit offers continuous monitoring of brain function and brain pressure with special probes. Our "weaning" concept implies that we carry out the first weaning from long-term ventilation before transfer to a early rehabilitation clinic.
