Laparoscopic surgery

Today, laparoscopic surgery is the safest and most reliable approach used in all advanced German clinics. Bonifatius hospital is not an exception: we perform the most common laparoscopic operations using high-tech technologies and offering agreeable prices. Which operations we perform, and what makes us special?

What is laparoscopic surgery?

This is an operation that presupposed minimal invasion. In comparison with usual surgeries where one big cut 4-6 inches long is made on the affected zone, laparoscopic operation requires 2-5 small incisions to be made. One cut is used to insert a thin tube with a camera that allows watching what is happening inside patient’s body. Other cuts are needed to operate with instruments. As soon as the procedure is over, these incisions are sutured. One cut may be used to put drainage tube inside and let the fluid out, this is a temporary measure.

Types of surgeries

Specialists in Bonifatius hospital perform various kinds of operations. Our doctors are experienced and skilled enough to make laparoscopy as safe and successful as possible. Besides, we have state-of-art medical technics and facilities that help us to handle with the hardest tasks and most challenging operations.

Laparoscopic gallbladder surgery

If gallstones form in the gallbladder or bile ducts, doctors usually recommend removal of gallbladder. This is a safe procedure that affects neither overall health, nor person’s digestion. Operation is recommended in most cases, because attempts to dissolve gallbladder stones are mostly unsuccessful. Laparoscopic surgery of gallbladder requires making only four incisions in patient’s abdomen. Recovery goes pretty quickly, and the patient can leave hospital the same day.

Laparoscopic colorectal surgery

This procedure is done for patients who have tumors, lumps or cancer of the large intestine. A doctor makes a few cuts in lower abdomen, slightly inflates the bowel and removes affected tissues. Ends of healthy colon are stapled or stitched together. Laparoscopic colon surgery causes much less pain, allows for faster recovery (within a few weeks), and leaves almost no scars on the skin<.

Laparoscopic bariatric surgery

This procedure is recommended to people suffering from overweight. During laparoscopic stomach surgery, the upper section of stomach is removed or closed so that to reduce the volume of it. As the result, a patient eats less feeling saturation with a fewer amount of food. This type of surgery should be performed accurately: a sufficient space in stomach must be left. The outcomes later depend on the patient: he or she needs to eat enough foods to get nutrients, but not too much. Otherwise, the stomach will increase in volume back again.

Laparoscopic antireflux surgery

This procedure is used to eliminate gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This condition takes place when the sphincter muscle is not strong enough to keep stomach contents, and being mixed with stomach acid, it goes to the esophagus. It gets irritated, and a person experiences burning sensation in chest, sour cough and some other symptoms. The operation allows correcting the work of the sphincter and set up proper valve mechanism.

Laparoscopic kidney surgery

Such procedure is done in cases when a person has stones in kidneys, defects, infections, serious injuries, or simply wants to donate a kidney. During the operation, small 3 or 4 cuts will be made in person’s belly or the side. Using the camera, a surgeon will inspect the organ and decide upon the following actions. To remove a kidney, a surgeon will make one incision larger (up to 10 centimeters).

Side effects

Although doctors in Bonifatius clinic do their best to avoid complications and negative outcomes, some laparoscopic surgeries may cause the following side effects:

  • Pain in the operated area
  • Infection
  • Breaking of stitches
  • Inflammation
  • Allergic reaction to anesthesia and medications
